With a growing level of maturity, the Project/ Programme Management Office (PMO) has become deeply entrenched in many organisations worldwide. In its annual survey, ESI International investigated the evolution of the PMO’s function, its role and value in the organisation, and its involvement in training project management professionals.Some of the key findings :
- PMOs are increasingly providing support at the strategic and portfolio level.
- PMOs have a long way to go when it comes to demonstrating value through considered, quantitative measurement and metrics.
- Two in five PMOs use the Agile approach in some of their projects/programmes.
- 74% of respondents believe that their PMO Budget will increase or remain the same.
- Only 46% of PMOs surveyed offered a defined PMO career path for staff.
- 76% of PMOs has been challenged by the senior management (Resource management as greatest perceived challenges).
- The PMO’s role is significant in Training with 66% of PMOs involved in training.
